About Us

 

Through our education programs, our aim is to reduce the number of pets bought through pet stores and abandoned to shelters and rescue services by teaching the young, before their parents purchase a pet for family, about the needs and responsibilities of pet guardianship.

 

We also, offer the life-experienced members of our communities, the chance to interact with a pet again. They may have chosen not become a full-time pet owner due to age and worry of leaving a pet behind should something happen to them. They may have moved into a residence that does not permit them to have a pet. We can offer them the experience of pet guardianship without the full-time responsibility.

 

Our goal is to bring schools, community centres, scouts, YMCA s, pet rescue agencies on board with educating the public, starting with the very young. Our Pet Guardian Certificate Program gives them all the information and hands-on experience they need to prepare themselves for pet guardianship and taking on the responsibility of a living being.

 

As per our mandate, in our school programs we sponsor two low-income children in each 8 week session of the lunch program and we donate 10% back to the schools hosting the program. We also donate 10% of the proceeds to animal rescue groups that we support.

 

The fees from these programs help us to offer the community programs at a low cost or free of charge so everyone benefits from your decision to encourage responsible pet guardianship via the schools and community programs.

 

All instructors with the programs are animal rescue volunteers and/or dog trainers with many years experience with abandoned and untrained dogs.  Foxy’s Canine Companions rehomed nearly 400 dogs in the 3 years during its rescue mandate.
