Puppy Support GroupThis program is designed to offer support to those families who have recently added a new puppy to their home, and are now wondering “What was I thinking?” All dog guardians are welcome to participate.
We offer support, information sessions, and also peer support from others in the group who are experiencing similar thoughts and don’t know where to turn.
Our facilitators are animal rescue volunteers and recent new-puppy pet parents who are also dog trainers, who will help guide you through the puppy stages and relate to you their own experience of having a new puppy in the house for the first time in many years. They will share the hilarious episodes and the frustration they too experience as new puppy guardians.
Brownies, Scouts, Guides VisitThis is a one-hour visit to the troops to introduce the child to how to act safely and responsibly around dogs and learn the tools to avoid being bitten.
SeniorZ-Hug-A-Dog ProgramThis program is sponsored by Dogz ‘r’ Uz and free to the senior to come spend some time with a pet. Many seniors have had to give up their pets, or have lost their pets and feel they are not able or are reluctant to take on pet ownership in their later years. We would like to offer them an alternative to having no pet. Beginning May 18, 2008 1pm - 2pm Hudson Community Centre
JuniorZ Hug-A-Dog Program (Sponsored)The JuniorZ Hug-A-Dog Program is offered at our centre during the day. This program is sponsored by Dogz ‘r’ Uz and free to the child although we do request a $5.00 donation be made to the non-profit to help support the rescue organizations, to come spend some time just hugging and talking and enjoying interacting with a dog in a restful, home-like environment .
Many children’s families are either reluctant to take on the responsibility of guardianship, or allergies exist in the family making it impossible to have a pet in the house, or financially the family is not able to take on pet ownership at this time in their lives, but miss the company of a pet. We would like to offer them an alternative to having no pet. Please check back for dates the program will begin.
Rent-A-Dog ProgramThe program is aimed at families who cannot or do not wish to take on the responsibility of pet guardianship, but who would still like the interaction with a pet. Families are paired up with volunteers who are pet guardians. Our aim to stop the purchase of puppies from pet stores to satisfy the child’s wish for a dog. We can provide an alternative. As part of the membership, should the family choose to become pet guardian, we offer them our services to find the correct pet for their family through rescue groups.
This program provides the family with an opportunity to interact with a pet, to test the child’s staying power in wanting a pet, and also fulfils the child’s needs without making a major life-changing, life-time commitment to another living being.
The dogs will be provided by DogZ ‘r’ Uz through our network of fosters and trainers. The family will be assigned a volunteer with their dog, to spend an hour with the family playing, walking and educating them while having a fun, responsibility-free time with a pet. Please check back for dates the program will begin. |
